LLMs.txt 3 unexpected ways AI can amplify candidate experience - PageUp

Over the past few years, hiring has become an AI-centred tug-of-war.

On the one hand, candidates are using AI to write cover letters, tailor resumes to targeted keywords, and mass-apply to hundreds of roles in an afternoon. On the other hand, employers are increasingly using AI tools to screen those applications and auto-generate job ads, saving time and scaling recruitment efforts tenfold.

But is all this extra activity a good thing? In one recent survey, 73% of HR professionals said more than half of the applications they receive fail to meet basic role criteria. 26% of candidates are skeptical about companies using AI, worried it will lead to them being prematurely cut from the process. Somewhere in all the hype, the true purpose of using AI tools in hiring has been lost: streamlining the journey from open requisition to filled role, without candidates ever feeling like they’ve been palmed off or worse: dehumanised.

In this age of AI-driven efficiencies, talent teams must ensure they’re keeping focus on what matters: giving candidates a great experience.

Here are our four tips for using AI to amplify your candidate experience, without losing the human touch.

1. Make your employer brand more interactive

Most career sites are a one-way broadcast: a values page, a handful of stock photos, a list of open roles. A candidate reading it has no way to ask a follow-up or dive deeper into topics they’re interested in. 78% of candidates say “validating that a job is worth pursuing” is very or extremely important to them, and this can be difficult to do from a static page alone.

This is where AI can change the shape of career site browsing. AI tools like our Candidate Agent can turn static pages into an interactive conversation. Instead of hunting through a careers page for an answer that might not be there, a candidate can just ask: about the team, about the role, about what a typical first few months look like, and get a real answer, grounded in real content, at 11pm on a Sunday (if that’s when they’re looking).

There’s an extra benefit here too: candidates who can ask their questions upfront are better equipped to rule themselves in or out of your recruitment process. This means the applications that do land in your pipeline are higher quality, and more likely to be from people who truly want the job.

2. Let candidates match their own skills to roles

Matching a candidate’s skills to the right role has always been a recruiter’s job: reading a resume, spotting the transferable experience, thinking “you’d actually be great for that other role too.” It’s valuable work, but it’s also completely invisible to the candidate, who applies to the one job they found and never realises that three others might have suited them better.

Flip that same work onto the candidate side. Imagine uploading a resume and seeing which roles suit you best based on your transferable skills. 65% of jobseekers say they struggle to judge role fit from a career site alone, and that’s exactly where good candidates disappear. Skills matching within tools like the Candidate Agent turns every browsing session into a guided path: from initial interest, to seeing roles they hadn’t thought to search for, to actually applying, catching candidates who may otherwise disappear.

3. Turn the conversation into the application

Even once a candidate finds the right role, most career sites aren’t capable of providing a truly seamless application process. After hitting “Apply,” candidates are redirected, perhaps asked to create an account, re-upload a resume, and fill in a form that mostly restates what they’ve already shared. Every extra step is a chance to close the tab and say “so long” to top talent forever.

Tidying up your application process will go some of the way. But a seamless handover from conversation to application? That’s the ultimate way to reduce friction. Candidate Agent directs them to the application, kick-starting the process and carrying over what the candidate has already shared instead of asking them to repeat it.

Bonus tip: Be upfront about how AI is involved in your hiring process

Candidate skepticism about AI stems from a lack of transparency around how it is used in the hiring process. A candidate who’s rejected without explanation has every reason to assume something opaque happened behind the scenes, even if the process was reasoned and fair. Greater transparency is quickly becoming the thing that separates companies that candidates trust from the ones they avoid. PageUp’s own research on AI in recruitment points to the same conclusion: the future of hiring depends on using AI to do the heavy lifting, while leaving humans to make the decisions that matter.

This is why we built Candidate Agent

The common thread across all three: a lot of what’s involved in best-practice hiring (i.e. bringing a career site to life, being upfront about how and why a decision was made, spotting a transferable skill) has always depended on a recruiter having the time to do it personally. AI’s real opportunity in candidate experience is to make this available to every candidate, not just the ones who happen to get a recruiter’s attention.

That’s the whole design philosophy behind our Candidate Agent. It’s an agentic AI hiring assistant, designed to bring your career site to life with real, on-brand content instead of static pages. Every match comes with a plain-language explanation, and candidates can upload their resume to match their own skills, including transferable ones, to roles across your business, not just the one job they happened to find. It embeds directly into PageUp’s Talent Acquisition Suite, or layers on top of whatever ATS you’re already running, so the only thing that changes is what your candidates experience.

Our tool is ISO 27001 certified with GDPR compliance as standard, and Candidate Agent runs on the same underlying intelligence as Paige, named a 2026 Top HR Product of the Year: a product that’s already helped customers achieve up to 75% faster shortlisting. The same rigor, speed, and transparency recruiters already rely on for their own side of the hire now extends to the candidate side too.

Candidates get better answers, hiring teams get better-fit applicants, and every step goes to build trust, one transparent conversation at a time.
