What wasn’t working

Since arriving in the UK, Five Guys has grown rapidly to 164 restaurants – in part due to their UK careers website, first launched in 2017. But as the company’s talent focus expanded, and to boost their employer brand in the competitive hospitality sector, Five Guys needed an updated platform to attract, engage and convert top talent.

By 2023, it was clear the existing site needed upgrading:

  • The site couldn’t showcase the full range of career development and learning opportunities available;
  • Application processes were complex, leading to a below-expectation candidate experience;
  • The presentation of rewards and perks was lacklustre and didn’t highlight the value of a career with Five Guys.

The turning point

Five Guys recognisedrecognized things needed to change, especially as attracting and retaining top talent was key to their growth strategy. They wanted a slick, simple and seamless recruitment solution that would reflect their employer brand, showcase career pathways and engage both active and passive candidates.

They partnered with PageUp to deploy a mobile-first recruitment platform to attract and engage talent in the competitive hospitality market.

The shift began in three phases:

  1. Understanding what mattered most

    Conducting focus groups with PageUp and key stakeholders to discover what mattered most to candidates: career development, rewards, company culture and a streamlined application process.

  2. Creating interactive career journeys

    Using an interactive career path feature to enable candidates to visualisevisualize their career progression.

  3. Showcasing rewards dynamically

    Transforming how rewards and perks were presented using PageUp’s interactive features.
