Where things got stuck

Mater is a values-led healthcare organisationorganization founded in 1906, serving 500,000 patients annually and recognisedrecognized as a market leader in the Australian healthcare sector. With over 7500 employees, a passionate core of 750 volunteers, and a strong employer brand Mater has no problem attracting talent; during COVID 19 it wasn’t unusual for talent acquisition to receive 900 applications overnight.
But effectively hiring and managing talent was being held back by significant challenges:

  • Disconnected talent acquisition and talent management systems made it hard for hiring managers and recruiters to collaborate
  • Gaps in their existing systems hindered internal talent mobility
  • Difficulties delivering a positive candidate experience for every applicant while receiving extremely high volumes of applications (up to 450 applications overnight, doubling to 900 during COVID-19).

Developing a shared, integrated talent system and process that worked for recruiters and hiring managers alike was an urgent priority for Mater.

The turning point

Georgie Fisher, Mater’s Talent Acquisition Manager, saw Mater needed a 21st century talent acquisition solution, able to handle hybrid recruitment models and designed for seamless collaboration between her team and hiring managers. In addition the solution had to be candidate-centric, offering an efficient, transparent and engaging experience for applicants.
