About UCF
The University of Central Florida (UCF) is a public research university in Orlando. It has nearly 70,000 students and employs 12,000 staff and faculty. Each year, the talent team manages 12,000 job requisitions and receives around 70,000 applications
The challenge
During COVID, UCF was making big changes. The university moved to a centralisedcentralized recruitment model and rolled out Workday HCM and Finance.
“It was a huge transition and a steep learning curve. We focused on sourcing, screening and shortlisting candidates, but Workday Recruiting was a completely different experience from the system we had come to know and love.”
Renee Grigor, Assistant Vice President of Talent Management
UCF also faced tough competition for talent in Orlando. Local employers like Disney and Universal Studios had strong brands, big budgets and higher salaries. To stand out, UCF needed to build awareness, attract talent and improve how they engaged with candidates.
However, after transitioning to Workday Recruiting, the team quickly discovered they lacked what they needed to attract, engage and convert talent leading to several challenges, including:
- Poor candidate experience on their careers site, impacting their employer brand
- No access to jobseekers with incomplete applications
- No control over careers site content
- Limited recruiter productivity under the the new centralisedcentralized model
- No way to customisecustomize candidate journeys by interest area
- No pre-apply touchpoints to build a talent network
- No SMS communication with candidates
- No sourcing effectiveness or candidate behaviour data
These challenges and lack of recruitment marketing capabilities made it harder for UCF to attract, engage and convert talent.
The focus
UCF set out to find a recruitment marketing solution to help them:
- Reach more candidates
- Deliver a best-in-class candidate experience
- Support their lean team
- Reduce time-to-hire
- Improve quality of hire
Below are the four key focus areas UCF prioritisedprioritized when seeking a new solution.
1. A self-service careers site
The team wanted full control over their careers site. They needed a simple way to update content without relying on IT or external vendors, whilst adhering to marketing brand guides and style requirements.
“We needed it to be easy. We wanted control – but we aren’t programmers,” said Renee. “It had to be intuitive.”
2. PersonalisedPersonalized experiences powered by AI and automation
To solve their lack of visibility over career site visitors, UCF needed a smarter way to connect with potential candidates – even if they weren’t ready to apply. They wanted to capture interest, automate follow-up and create personalisedpersonalized journeys with less manual effort.
3. Tools that boost recruiter productivity
The team was looking for a CRM that worked with LinkedIn Recruiter, helped build talent pipelines and gave recruiters more time for strategic work. They also wanted clear data to track performance and prove ROI.
4. Actionable sourcing data and analytics
UCF needed accurate sourcing data that didn’t rely on candidate self-reporting to inform their strategy. They also wanted to understand how candidates were interacting with content so they could fine-tune career sites with content that resonates.
The solution
UCF chose PageUp Clinch recruitment marketing solution. With PageUp Clinch, the team built an on-brand careers site that seamlessly transitions and matches the UCF website. The intuitive self-service functionality enabled their team to take control, make updates easily, strengthen messaging and tailor content for different audiences.
“The PageUp team was great; they have an inhouse implementation team and it’s not outsourced. They really brought our creative vision to life.”
Now, UCF has the capabilities to capture visitors through calls to action on the career site, build a growing talent network and automatically nurture candidates with personalisedpersonalized emails, texts and job alerts.
“Not only are we now capturing the individuals who don’t complete their application, but we’re also able to catch people at various stages – there might not be a position they’re interested in or they might not have time – the system creates a pop-up CTA to capture them before they leave.”
UCF can reach out to candidates via SMS to send reminders and updates. Over half of the candidates who have received a reminder of their incomplete application, have returned to their application, resulting in 21 new hires that may not have happened without PageUp Clinch.

Recruiters now track every interaction, from job alerts to applications. They tag candidates, build pipelines and use automated workflows. The LinkedIn CRM Connect integration saves time and keeps everything in one place, giving recruiters back 15% of their day to focus on strategic work.
UCF also uses PageUp Clinch heatmaps and content analytics to see what’s drives the highest conversions from visitors to candidates. They track how visitors move through the site, what they click on and what drives action.
Through optimising the experience, UCF has surpassed industry benchmarks achieving:
- A 30% of career site visitor return rate
- An average of viewing three pages per visit
- An average two minute spend on the site
PageUp continues to partner with UCF for their ongoing success and ensuring that they always get the most out of their solution.
“For me the differentiator with PageUp are the people, the people are phenomenal, and you’re not just a number. Yes, we have a knowledge portal. Yes, we have a ticketing system. But we haven’t even used the ticketing system yet because we have people constantly checking in to see how we’re doing.”
